Our ride this year was one of the best by far. We were joined by several guests and new members that have never been to Rolling Thunder previously. Our Chapter left Friday morning to travel to Washington and boy!!! Did we have a trip .. read more about it below ...
Meeting at 6:00am on Friday morning were members George, Kim, Ron, Paul and myself (Suzi). We were joined by guests, Mischele (Suzi’s daughter), Kevin (Combat Vets) and his son Logan, Frank and his son Steve, Paul’s sons Mike and Paul Jr. along with their friends Andrew and Junko and Jim Simmons. We were met in Washington by members Frank (Sabo), Bob (Wheeler) and Jim (Scott) and my son Anthony. Friday morning, while no rain was quite windy, we should have known that the ride would be filled with unexpected events as pieces of Ron’s bike littered Central Avenue. Having sent Misch back to retrieve the items all was repaired with a trusty roll of duct tape [that stuff is INCREDIBLE]. We did leave Albany, finally, although slightly behind schedule (having also experienced some “leaning” issues with the bike on the trailer [Paul, Jr.]).
Off we go …. and go …. and go …. Okay, we are now in Pennsylvania ... yup, we made it that far, a little over half way .. we are excited .. cold, but excited .. then .. we smell burning .. and NO not Suzi’s toast burning .. but a bike burning smell and then we notice the smoke billowing out of Ron’s bike … as we take a closer look, there appears to be something dripping, in fact A LOT of dripping .. a WHOLE BUNCH of dripping .. – KIM, PASS THE DUCT TAPE - .. but no, duct tape won’t work this time .. we debate .. we wonder .. we debate some more .. we ponder .. we debate .. and finally a decision has been made .. and off into the yonder we trudge .. YUP .. you guessed it, while duct tape was not able to make this repair, there is another wonderful fix-all .. called “Stop Leak” .. we are going to make the trip with the bike .. will it make it? Off we go …. and go …. and go …. Okay, we are now STILL in Pennsylvania.. ya’ know .. that is ooonnnneeee long ass state .. Finally out of Pennsylvania .. now we are in Maryland .. stopping for lunch in Thurmont .. I leave the group there – having to go straight to the Hyatt to meet my son .. bbbuuuuuttttttt …. Several members and guests filled me on the rest of the ride … Seeing how Kim brought along his trusty “GPS” unit .. he decided after having a full belly from lunch, that he would (finally) hook it up and turn it on …. bbbuuuuttttt .. all that lunch made it pretty difficult and having taken too long the others were anxious to get this ride over with … so, Off they go …. and go …. and go ….
Okay, are you noticing a pattern here???? … they still haven’t shown up at the Hyatt … and I’m wondering “where the heck (hell) are they” .. seems as if they (you know who you are) should have waited for Kim to hook up that bad boy GPS system seeing as they got lost … yup .. L. O. S. T … and not just lost, but lost in a really bad neighborhood .. but you know these guys, they are pretty resourceful, they pulled over and asked the next crack dealer they saw where to find Crystal City .. and he was like .. “Crystal City .. yo’ bro .. I’ve been looking for that place too … where all the crystal is free and cut with only the best” … so .. since he couldn’t help .. off they go in search of the NEXT crack dealer …
DISCLAIMER: THESE VIEWS AREN’T NECESSARILY THE VIEWS OF ROLLING THUNDER®, INC. NEW YORK CHAPTER 5 To be politically correct … insert “Unlicensed Pharmacist” where “Crack Dealer” appears
.. but they finally did make it .. A little road weary .. but they made it ..they all trudge into the hotel, sweaty and dusty, but all safe and sound ..
